What’s Up Wednesday: Delayed but Not Denied

I was supposed to write this blog last Wednesday.

But life.…real life….showed up in ways I didn’t expect. I was distracted, I was disappointed, and honestly, I was deep in my feelings because a situation tried to steal my joy during my birthday week. The words just wouldn’t come. And that’s the truth. But I’ve learned, especially at 50, that just because something is delayed doesn’t mean it’s denied.

So here I am. Writing this a week later, still fired up, fierce, fine, and fabulous and celebrating that I turned 50 years old on June 3rd.

Not everyone makes it to this milestone.

My Big Sister Rebecca didn’t.

My Baby Brother LB won’t.

My Nephew, some of my Cousins and so many of my Family & Friends……..

And because of that, I refuse to be silent or small about celebrating this MO’ment. This season. This chapter of my life.

I chose to celebrate my 50th birthday over Memorial Day Weekend not just because of the extra time off, but because I wanted to do something meaningful a CAMOUFLAGED-themed, inspired by my military background, in honor of those we’ve lost, and a reminder that we are still here. As a Veteran, Memorial Day isn’t just about BBQs and beach days. It’s layered with grief, memories, pride, and purpose. And I wanted to bring all of that into my celebration (I struggled through my celebration weekend) – a tribute to resilience, to service, to life after loss.

And let me tell you, it was beautiful.

We wore camo. We danced. We worshiped. We laughed.

We honored life.
And two of us in our couples circle—both turning 50 just one day apart—got to share the joy of being celebrated while we’re still here.

The following weekend, we packed up and traveled to Dallas to celebrate someone else’s milestone. Because this is what life should look like: celebrating one another, supporting each other, showing up while we still can.

To my Real Talk TYME Community:

Don’t wait.
Don’t dim your light because of who might not clap.
Don’t skip over your own milestones because you’re worried it’s “too much.”

It’s not bragging to say you’ve made it through.
It’s not boasting to say you’re proud of how far you’ve come.
It’s healing. It’s modeling. It’s proof that survival and celebration can exist in the same space.

Because when people don’t know where you’ve come from, how you’ve made it, and what it’s taken to get here…

How can they believe in what’s possible for themselves?

Let your life speak….REAL TALK!!!!
Let your milestones be a map for someone else’s journey.
Let your celebration be a testimony.

Because life is short. And showing up matters.
Even if it’s a week late—I’m still showing up.

With gratitude,
Coach Mo
