Earlier this morning on my social media, I dropped this truth:
Rest is not a reward for finishing your to-do list. It’s a responsibility for protecting your peace.
And I want to take a moment to unpack that with you here…because this one hit home even for me.
Let’s be honest: too many of us are out here grinding in survival mode, trying to earn rest like it’s a luxury. But let’s be real…burnout doesn’t serve your purpose.
I’m not speaking this from theory—I’m living it in real time.
I’m a Human Resources Professional, a Total Wellness Coach, a Continuous Learner, an Uber Driver, a BK/KK Independent Consultant, an Inspirational Speaker, a Storyteller, a Peer Leader, a woman in leadership across multiple organizations, the founder of a nonprofit, and a full-time entrepreneur running Real Talk TYME LLC.
Yes, I keep a to-do list. A long one.
But guess what? I also schedule my rest like a non-negotiable meeting.
I protect my peace the same way I protect my purpose.
Why? Because I can’t pour into anyone else if my own cup is cracked and empty.
And I’m still healing.
Mentally. Spiritually. Physically. Emotionally.
I stay in therapy. I work with coaches. I create space for healing.
That’s not weakness, that’s WISDOM.
Intentional Living Requires Intentional Rest
I don’t rest because I’m lazy.
I rest because I’m INTENTIONAL about every area of my life.
Every “yes” I give comes from a place of alignment, not obligation.
So, let me ask you this:
Are you honoring your rest as much as your hustle?
If your answer is no, it’s time for a reset…. not just your schedule, but your mindset.
Coach Mo’s Real Talk Tips: Rest with Intention
Here are a few ways you can start:
- Put It on the Calendar
Block off time for rest the same way you do for meetings. Protect that space. - Redefine Productivity
Productivity includes rest. You can’t create, lead, or heal when you’re exhausted. - Pause Without Permission
You don’t need to earn rest. Give yourself permission to do nothing and not feel bad about it. - Invest in Support
Coaches, therapists, mentors, and wellness communities help you stay aligned. - Do Wellness Your Way
Your rest might be a nap, a walk, journaling, prayer, unplugging from social media, or dancing around the house. Own it.
Let’s Reflect:
- Am I scheduling rest or waiting until I crash?
- Do I feel guilty for slowing down?
- What boundaries do I need to set to protect my peace?
- What’s one way I can give myself permission to pause today?
From Hustle Mode to Healing Mode
