What is a Support System? Do you have one or do you have more than one?

Before I start this “Real-Talk” conversation about this “Real-Life” situation (Support Systems) on this What’s Up Wednesday, let me google this definition of support.

The definition of support is to bear all or part of the weight of, hold up, give assistance to especially financially, enable to function or act, or to agree with and give encouragement to someone or something because you want him, her, or it to succeed. The synonyms for support are aid, assistance, backing, encouragement, loyalty, protection, relief and it named the word assist again…. there are many more synonyms but that’s enough to get this conversation started!!!

A support system in my experience is someone you can call about anything and at any time. It doesn’t matter the time of day or what the reason is, they are going to respond to you as soon as they can, be there for you in the way you want them to be or even assist you in some form or fashion.

Each person in your support system may be wanted or needed for different reasons, some may be wanted or needed for a certain season! There are a lot of moving parts in a support system and as you continue to grow, your wants and needs will grow too and sometimes so does your circles. To embrace change for the better, you will continuously have to change your support systems.

Did you know that “Elevation Requires Separation”? To elevate oneself, one might have to separate themselves to get to the next level.

Sometimes people believe that a support system is a spouse/significant other, family members, long-term friendships or even someone who you hang out with daily. In my experience, this is simply not true – REAL TALK! Being in the Military, traveling all over the world, meeting new people, and moving every two to three years forces you to have different support systems. Dealing with traumas or mental health conditions, introduces you to different individuals, groups, circles, and support systems. Sometimes a stranger that you barely know is a part of your support system because of the similarities, differences and just because of a conversation had between one another.

Anyone who is pouring into your purpose, your mission and vision, your physical mental health, your spirituality, your goals and accomplishments, your pain, and your struggles…. in any way possible, those are the people who support! Keep in mind they will help you feel, heal and deal with everyday life! They will ASSIST YOU!  Their end goal should be your end goal……THAT IS TO WIN!

Don’t be selfish though…………. pour into other as they pour into you! REAL TALK!
